As you might have read, I won an iPad the other week. I am a true fAndroid but I still wanted to give the iPad a fair chance so I will at least use it for 1 or 2 months before having my final verdict but just after one week I already have some pointers I wanted to share.
Some of the apps are great but really the only apps I miss on my Android tablet are the +Sonos iPad app and +Flipboard. Knowing that +Flipboard is making its way to Android there is nothing to worry about anymore.
Notifications are annoying! They disappear way too quickly and then I forget about them. I totally miss my widgets
Without opening an app quickly scrolling through your Twitter mentions. Heaven!
Most apps don't use the extra real estate on the screen. The official twitter app still only displays one column. A waste of space! And what is up with the fact that I need to purchase separate apps to use on iPhone or iPad?!
Last week I tried to edit some MP4s (standard video format) in iMovie and I got the error that it was an unsupported file format. Excuse me? They are standard MP4 files.
Well enough for now. More in the next few weeks!
Just this morning I saw a video being shared which perfectly shows where iOS is lacking. The videos are well worth watching so take your time!

I am going to notify a few friends, just to get their opinion on it as well
Thanks for the video share : +Alex Vangrootenbruel & +Tristan Leblanc
Good news that this guy told us in advance he couldn´t do the full hour, but with 15 minutes each I think he exceeded this
BTW +Arvid Bux I thought the twitter app was one of the highlights I was missing by not having an iPad (android tablet user here, but not because of an OS pref, but because it´s sunlight readable without backlight)
" And what is up with the fact that I need to purchase separate apps to use on iPhone or iPad?!"
When I got my 2nd Android device this thrilled me to no ends because I assumed I would have to repurchase things.
Going to check out the videos.
I couldn't agree more
I believe the acceptance of either OS is also related with the Geek level of the end user. Geeks like use can manage things easier and are looking for other (better) ways to use their apps and equipment.
Android is much more capable of doing that. If I look at the average smartphone user, most users are by far using the capabilities the devices are created for. And then iOS just serves…..
I really like My Tracks and Google Listen on Android. And things like Dropbox integration and photo sharing are better on Android IMO.
Tnx +Arvid Bux for your update!
You made the start, great, but the first 3 points you mention give me a nasty feeling about the out come
. They are non relevant I think. Your first point is about both having the the same apps, and you are setting Android above iPad because both have the same apps?
You are also saying that most apps don't use the extra estate of the screen and mention one app, the Twitter app because it doesn't use multiply columns. How many culomns is the twitter app on a Android Tabelt?
The first point that makes sense is indeed the MP4…. Come on +Arvid Bux you can do better than that!!
Giving you a positive feedback as a Applefan
+Harold Kuepers unfortunately there is no official Twitter app for Android tablets. Do you have a look at the videoclips?
Yes i saw them al last night…..
+Harold Kuepers On the apps I mean that loads of people claim that the iPad is better because there much better apps. Great, that can indeed be the case. But what I noticed, there only two apps I truly love on iOS and nothing more. I am not saying that I would choose Android above iOS but there is also no push for me to choose iOS above Android.
But more to come
it is easier to discover annoying items in a week than to really come up with the good things
+Harold Kuepers what do you think of the videos. He does have some points.
+Arvid Bux it would be great if someone made a series of videos from the iOS pov to answer these.
The baby duck syndrome (first thing you see/learn is your natural) is so strong that if you got used to Android it will be difficult to see the advantages of iOS and vice versa.
So an open reply with a similar set of vids from an iOS guy would help.
speaking as an Android tablet owner with a WM7 main phone
Impressive, can't wait for the rest. Would like to share some thoughts about Android now +Arvid Bux
I'm in a similar situation to +Arvid Bux . I have an Android phone and tablet (HTC Desire HD and Acer A500) and have been an Android user since the days of the G1. My job supplied me an iPad 2 because we have to implement and support them. I found the whole experience of iOS and the iTunes store to be very unintuitive and at times confusing. I think the reputation of iOS being easy to use is exaggerated by people who fall in love with Apples beautiful hardware.
The best thing about owning an iPad is that I can tell people that Android is better than iOS from the perspective of someone who uses both on a daily basis.
+Harold Kuepers The way iPhone apps stretch and pixelate on the iPad is horrible. I assumed that an iOS app would scale and work across both devices (like on Android). I honestly expected better from Apple given their emphasis on UI and design.
