what adds or does not add a +1
Last year, I noticed that certain actions would add a +1 to the counter on a webpage. In order to add a +1 to the counter, you had to add the URL to a page as a link to the Google+ post. Just adding the link in the body and for instance adding a photo or video didn't change the counter of the +1-button. Now this has changed.

When you add a link/URL in the body of the post it will count towards the total number of +1's on the webpage. This is extremely handy when you want to add a large photo to make the post much more attractive. 

The +1 which is given to a post will count back to the +1 on the webpage. Reshares will add to it as well. When a post on Google+ goes viral, you will notice this as well on the page showing +1-button.

This also means that I can potentially add 3 counts to the + 1-button on a page. +1 the page, share the URL in a G+ post and +1 the G+ post. Resharing my own G+ post doesn't add a new count.

NOTE: this only works with 1(!) URL in a G+ post. When you add more than one, none will get a count added.  

Now I discovered this while just doing some high level tests. It would be great if you can test this as well and let me know whether you see the same behavior. I am glad Google did change this as it obsoletes the decision of whether to create an attractive post or a post purely to gain +1's for your page
