How to solve the twitter spam
In the last couple of days a lot of people have been receiving DM-messages on twitter that show a message like: “that’s you”. The message also contains a link to a website. When you click the link, the website will ask you to fill in your username/password. By doing that, they just gained access to your twitter-account and will be able to send DM-messages to your contains. They do not put a virus on your PC/Mac but are just using your account details on twitter to send the DM-messages. So how to solve this;
- Never click on links you don’t trust, either in DM or a normal tweet!
- Ensure that your email address is still listed in twitter (in the event you would have to reset your pwd)
- Change your password (you gave it to them! If you use the same password for more services, change them everywhere)
- Revoke the access of all connections that are setup on the connections-tab in twitter
Good to know; all applications that you have sent up that use oAuth will require to be set up again as you have just revokes their access.
All should be fine now. It is always wise to have a look at your sent-DMs as you will see that they sent messages on your behalf.
Tuesday: twitter cleanup
After being years on twitter, I have gather a huge amount of people that I follow and who maybe don’t even follow me. Now not everybody wants to follow me (hi @billgates) but sometimes it causes a lot of noise, tweet-noise as I would call it. I noticed that quite often I didn’t see an interesting tweet as it was pilled with needless information which was most likely being generated by website or other services just throwing tweets out there. By weeding out the accounts that post this tweet-noise, I am able to focus again on what is important. After doing some manual clean-up I stumbled upon a nice website called ManageTwitter.
You can’t see Forrst right now
Great way to create a buzz for your new online app, Forrst. I just subscribed to the party and am waiting for more information. From what I understand, this tool would be a twitter spin-off targeting designers/developers and providing them a way to share their inspiring code, screenshots and links with their peers. If this can withstand the pull twitter/Google Buzz have, I don’t know but let’s wait and see what it will bring us!

What get’s your weekend going?
Limbo tweetup
Nu maar hopen dat we in het weekend geen sneeuwstormen meer krijgen want aankomende zondag is het zover, de Limbo tweetup. Allerlei Limburgse gebruikers van twitter zullen samen komen in de Irish Pub Erin’s Isle te Heerlen. Vanaf 15u op die zondag zal er dus ook veel offline getweet worden. Ben benieuwd wie er allemaal zal zijn!
Google, what’s next?
So Google Buzz, what is it all about? Google Buzz is a new service that has been launched by Google just recently. The services itself seems like a step from Google towards the Social platform, attacking sites like twitter and Facebook. Besides from the list of key features below, you can also have a quick peek at the below video:- No setup needed - Automatically follow the people you email and chat with the most in Gmail.
- Share publicly or privately - Publish your ideas to the world or just to your closest friends.
- Inbox integration - Comments get sent to the inbox so it’s easy to keep the conversation going.
Threadsy – Geordende social data
Vorige week kreeg ik een beta aangeboden van Threadsy. Threadsy is een dienst welke al jouw social data bij elkaar zet als ware het threads (vandaar dus ook de naam!) Een thread laat op chronologische volgorde het verloop van een gesprek zien, ook over andere verschillende informatie stromen. Threadsy doet dit door inloggen op je twitter/facebook/email account en dan al deze data geordend bij elkaar te zetten. Op het moment van schrijven ondersteunt Threadsy twitter, facebook, AOL, GMail, Windows Live/Hotmail, Yahoo mail en iedere ISP die IMAP ondersteunt.
Na Threadsy een aantal dagen geprobeerd te hebben vind ik het niet echt fijn werken, het mist de ease van gewoon met Gmail werken of Outlook. Zeker als je veel updates op facebook of twitter krijgt ben je al snel overweldigd met de hoeveelheid informatie die je te zien krijgt. Uiteraard kun je dan wel gaan filteren maar dat kun je ook wel doen door gewoon gebruik te maken van de tabbladen in Chrome of FireFox. Daarbij komt het ook niet echt vaak voor dat ik gesprekken begin op twitter om ze vervolgens verder te gaan in mijn email. Leuk idee maar slecht uitgevoerd.

Twazzup – inline content op twitter
Er zijn al verschillende applicatie’s, op het web, op je telefoon of op je desktop die het gebruik van twitter allemaal makkelijker moeten maken. Echter missen ze voor mij allemaal een optie die zorgt dat alles bij elkaar en in één scherm blijft. Wanneer je je twitter-stream bekijkt zie je een grote hoeveelheid aan links langs komen. Om een link te bekijken moet je er altijd op klikken wat er weer voor zorgt dat er een extra pagina wordt geopend. Doe dit een aantal keren en je hebt een oerwoud aan tab-bladen of browser-vensters openstaan.
L1 Nieuws en twitter
Toen ik een tijdje geleden twitter veel ging gebruiken merkte ik dat veel landelijke nieuwssites al gebruikte maakte van twitter. Dit was vooral handig om even snel wat nieuws binnen te krijgen op het moment dat het gebeurde. Probleem met een RSS-feed is dat de berichten vaak al oud zijn en dat je ze toch moet lezen om ze uit je lijst te halen. Met twitter is het makkelijker, je krijgt een ‘rivier’ van informatie en je leest alles wat interessant is. Is het niet interessant, dan ’stroomt’ het vrolijk verder en je hebt er geen omkijken meer naar.
Helaas was er nog niet veel op het gebied van regionaal nieuws en dan specifiek gezien voor Limburg. Om toch een beetje op de hoogte te blijven van het Limburgse nieuws ging ik kijken of L1 een twitter account had. Helaas was dit nog niet beschikbaar en heb ik dus zelf maar even een L1NWS twitter account gemaakt en gekoppeld aan de RSS-feed van L1-nieuws. Dit werkte prettig en er zijn nu al 275 followers op twitter.
Maar nu komt de tijd dat L1 zelf ook twitter gaat gebruiken en na kort twitter/mail contact met de redactie draag ik zometeen het L1NWS twitter account over zodat L1 er zelf mee aan de slag kan. Succes jongens!
